How do you impact retention and what programs or processes does your company have in place to manage retention? Do you know by level, department, shift, or EEO category your turnover percentage, both planned and unplanned? DO you know why employees are leaving your organization? Can your management team clearly determine where and how turnover is occurring? Does you management team understand what their role is in managing retention?

 

Unfortunately most companies under manage the concept of employee retention, instead focusing on or accepting as fact that turnover of employees at all levels is inevitable. At its best and with perfect retention management, the reality is that some employee turnover is beyond the control of management. However, when specific and measurable data indicating reasons for turnover are identified, when properly analyzed, and when resources are properly applied, a favorable balance can be achieved between planned and unplanned turnover at all levels.
